S1 Oral Term 2, Tourism, Listening Exercise 1

        Transcript of Listening Exercise 1

Good morning. Today I will tell you about our tour of Hong Kong. It starts at 8 am when the tour bus will take you to Aberdeen to eat dim sum at Jumbo Floating Restaurant. Dim sum is a traditional style of Cantonese food with small, often steamed dishes. You will have a chance to try egg custard buns, barbecued pork buns and different types of dumplings all served with a pot of Chinese tea.
After that we will go to the Peak. From the Peak you can enjoy panoramic views of Victoria Harbour, Kowloon Peninsula and also be amazed by the huge number of skyscrapers in Hong Kong. This is a good place to take some stunning photos.
We will then travel to Hong Kong’s largest island – Lantau Island – and board the Ngong Ping 360 cable car that will take us to the majestic Po Lin Monastery and a chance to see one of the biggest bronze buddha’s in the world. At 112 foot high it is an awe inspiring sight. You can take your time to climb the steps to the buddha or you might like to explore the historical Po Lin Monastery.
Next we will go to a traditional Chinese café in Kowloon and try some pineapple buns and stocking tea before ending our tour with some free time for you to look for bargains in the Ladies Market.

Poem - Goodbye

This poem is about... Well you can work that out for yourself. Is it a negative commentary or a positive one? That's for you to decide. I wrote the poem, but listening to poetry should be an interactive experience. You bring your own experiences, your own perceptions and your own feelings to the 'listening' and these are more valid than the intentions of the writer.
